Sustainability Themes
Below are examples of sustainability themes which we have identified
through our Sustainability Radar as opportunity themes:
Our approach has the following characteristics:
- Dynamic perspective: Sustainability is an inherently dynamic agenda. Understanding the momentum and underlying drivers of this agenda provides us with investment insight.
- Focus on solutions: Sustainability is not just about problems but also about solutions. Therefore, our investment process not only identifies risks but also companies that are able to exploit sustainable business opportunities.
- Tracking transformation: We are analysing transformation processes within companies. We are assessing to what extent companies are capable of strategic change towards a more sustainable business model, thereby creating sustainable competitive advantage.
- Quantification: Understanding the relative importance of the different sustainability challenges facing companies means quantification of these issues. One example of this is the unique way in which we are able to quantify environmental costs and benefits in monetary terms.
- Engagement: In order to quantify risks and opportunities associated with sustainability challenges we require appropriate disclosure from companies. If we are not satisfied with the quality of information provided we engage with companies through exercising our Proxy Voting rights.
